Château Gilette Sauternes (Crème de Tête)

I had this in a pairing in a tasting menu. The complexity is divine, notes of fruit and citrus but also a caramel and mocha finish.

Brilliant Sauternes with a honey and peach nose and marmalade and ginger palate. Went perfectly with white chocolate tart with raspberries and sorbet.

I consider Chateau Gilette maximum of Sauternes even compared to d’Yquem which I tasted in different years. 30 years ago I bought 6 bottles 1955 classic and 6 Crème du tete 1956. I have 1 1956 left, it will be for a special occasion.

1953. First time to drink a bottle older than my own parents. Sweet dessert wine yet easy to drink.

Some dried apricot, raisins, crushed flowers. Mellow down acidity which is perfectly balanced with its Sweetness. Thank you Anna for sharing this. This is wine that is so lovely like it is made for the dreams

Served Blind by Anna Tang. I guessed Sauternes quickly but was a little off in terms of vintage. I noticed it was from 75cl bottle so I added 10 years to my initial thought. My guess was 1980. Verdict: 1971 Sauternes. Boom! Incredible richness and perfect balance. Wonderful mix of apricot and Thai pineapples all drenched in honey and light sprinkle of chopped nuts. Amazing. Very creamy and silken texture. Not overly syrupy and very refined on the palate. Slightly toasted bread and a caramel finish

Closing of an exceptional evening... Caramel au beurre salé, buttery, very fine sweetness balanced by a faint acidity... Perfect.

One of the best dessert wines! So pleasant - sweetness grows from neutral to strong and back within 30 seconds. Pink rose color, lovely structure. Apricot, raisins and a bit of dried grass in the end. I like how it is balanced. 4.8

Feeling extremely blessed to taste the 1997 in 2021. 4.8⭐️ One simply cannot improve upon this Sauternes! In the bulls eye of its drinking window. Citrine quartz and amber in the glass. On the nose: dried apricot dipped in lavender honey; petunia; honeysuckle. On the palate: frangipani ; almond cake/ amaretti biscuit; sweet cream butter; hint of white chocolate and roasted hazelnut. Pairs exceptionally well with Blu di Capra formaggi and fig jam. Santé! 🙏🏼🇫🇷🎉 vive la France !

Меня сегодня балуют :) lucky me :) Very interesting one! Complicated nose, with honey and fruit tones, interesting sour scent, couldn't match it with anything. The taste is extremely light as for the sweet wine. Amazing experience for me!!!

Even dont agree on price this wine is pure gold. Mostly Semillon with added Sauvignon and toped (+- 1-2%) with Muscadel. An blood brother to Ch.dYquem. Creme the Tete - first press Only = the best what fruit can give. Dru sweet appricots, honey dew very sweet mellon, pure honney, sweet wood, earth... amazing sautern! Dessert in intself ... lovers of blue cheese, walnuts dont need more!

Holy #&%€ this is good. I have tasted a lot of excellent Sauternes, but this is, probably, the best. Creamy and silky, caramel, creme brulee, develops with no end in your mouth. Layers on layers. HEAVEN.

Served blind. All I know it is a large format bottle. Dark orange colour, white stonefruit, campher. Is this Sauternes? It is a touch dry, but it works incredibly well with the dessert of poached gooseliver, unripe strawberry and haricotjuice. (Prepared for this wine by 3 Michelin star chef Johnny Boer) the wine is rich and light on its feet. Fresh and sweet. No fat, no wood is used here. Creme de Tete 71 from mag. I did not have a clue. Great, great experience.

Franchement bluffant. Après 20 ans d’attente il délivre ses notes d’abricot, de miel, de caramel et de fleurs. Le sucre est fondu et l’impression de moelleux domine.

Golden colour fine aromas, medical malolactic, quince fruit, good structure oily complex.

Super elegant. Sweet but not in your face. Lots of stories behind the wine… lovely!

Sauternes del 1959, ho avuto il privilegio di assaggiarlo alla Peca di Lonigo, colore dorato ambrato, al naso liquirizia, miele, caramello e scorza d’arancia, al palato corrisponde alla perfezione con una percezione pepata e una bell’acidità che dopo 63 anni si fa ancora sentire . Spettacolo!!!

Insane! Buttered pecan, raisin, fig, honey (of course). Lots of brown and amber flavors, incredible balance and mouthfeel, plus an acidity that keeps it from going too far. This dances all over a tightrope without ever losing its balance.

This was a really nice wine. Strong taste of butter and honey. Some apricot fruit, sweet and a great way to finish a roast dinner.

Drank with friends at their cottage when it was about 30 years old. Dark and a bit syrupy, sweet and still some acidity left. Smooth and mellow, a bit tropical with nice finish.

Saturday older wines day! Where does life end for a Sauternes from an abismal year like 1956? Well, that would be around now.... Amber yellow In the glass. Impressions of beeswax, putty, honey and orange peel, but no marmalade, the quintessential element of a good Sauternes for me, indicating good botrytis. Creamy on the palate, but with pronounced bitter playing up. Acidic. Unrefined impressions, balance gone, starting to fall apart. Some development in the glass though. Last grasps of life.
