Kühling-Gillot / Battenfeld-Spanier tasting 14 / 14 - VDP GG - Incredible - on the nose sulfur, barnyard, smoke, on the palate very round, soft and without much tannins. Best of all the 14 wines we tasted and the competition was VERY tough.

96 CP - wunderbarer Spätburgunder vom Weingut Battenfeld-Spanier. Schöne Kombi aus Himbeere, Lakritze, dezenten Holznoten und Tanninen - für mich schon sehr rund und geschmeidig, obwohl er noch recht jung ist. Großes Kino mit Lagerpotenzial! @Karl Müller @! batterieberg

Was für eine grandiose Himbeernote... ich hoffe damit nicht allein auf weiter Flur zu stehen... Daumen hoch!!

92 Aroma had peach, apricots, honey flowers and candied lemons. Over the palate came peach, honey flowers, apricots and lime. Medium plus acidity, medium minus tannins and dry.

Absolutely wonderful wine. Soft, light, some spicyness, earthy notes. Superb!

So different that could be 5 stars. It had the same petroly flavour as some excellent rieslings have. Very good structure and long finish. Was at a restaurant with friends, so no detailed review this time.

4.6 kraftvoll, harmonisch, salzig, grip, würzig, elegant. Absolut langer Abgang. Sollte noch eine Weile ruhen…..bin absolut gespannt dies reif zu trinken.

A splendid Pinot Noir. This is entering a german forrest in autumn. Wet earth and mushrooms, fresh cherries. Perfect in balance. 4,5 stars.

What a wonderful surprise, this GG Spätburgunder! Earthy and smoky nose with menthol, red & black cherry, raspberry and a touch of black pepper & clove followed by a smooth palate with perfect, very pronounced acidity, red cherry, raspberry, menthol and constructive tannins especially drying in the lesd creamy, longer finish.

4* average rating? This is much better than that! Cool and elegant grand cru Pinot Noir, with gorgeous acidity and fine tannins. Complex, and with great aging potential. Medicinal nose, some nutty aromas, chocolate, earthy note, cherry, some dark fruit, black pepper, oak. This is really classy wine!

This one is really fun. Very big big, very big wine. I probably taste it to young, but every time you sniff you get new notes. The oak probably take over to much in this one. The bouquet is really impressive. Put it away, and try again in 5-7 years and you have a big wine. 94p

2021 getrunken. Trotz des jungen Alters sehr tief, hohe Komplexität, angenehme Viskosität. Tannine sehr schön mit eingearbeitet. Dunkle Frucht, Vanille, Pilze.

Very young. Still needs time for the oak to completely integrate. Highly enjoyable none the less. Will be even better in 3-4 years.

👁️ Granatrot mit Rostbraunen Reflexen im Glas 👃 Rote Beeren, Himbeeren, dezentes Holz 👅 Himbeeren dominieren, dazu etwas Rauch und Mineralik (Eisen). Im weiteren Verlauf etwas Erde sowie Lakritz und minimaler Ansatz von Eukalyptus. Gesamt sehr schöner PN und für Eur 30-35 absolut ok. Den Preis ab Hof für Eur 54 finde ich etwas übertrieben.

Angenehm überrascht! Sonst nicht so für leichte Rotweine zu haben, dieser hat aber eine schöne Komplexität und Aromenspiel roter Früchte.

Spätburgunder from Germany is getting better every year and becoming a serious competitor of Burgundy. Elegant and complex. Dark fruit, chocolate, strawberry, cherry with a subtle touch of tobacco. A well rewarded vineyard which continues to climb the quality steps. More to come in future years👌

Battenfeld Spanier - Kirchenstück Spätburgunder GG (2022) German Wine Festival today. Will only write a few words on the more memorable wines while memory is still fresh, mostly just ratings. Wine 6 Having tried their entry level Spätburgunder already, this was an interesting wine. Rheinhessen, Grosse Lage vinyard & Grosse Gewächs(grand cru) wine. Subtle integrated oak, vanilla, pepper, cherry, strawberry, minerals, touch of mint. Nice cherry, pepper, vanilla finish! A very solid German Spätbur

2018 Kräuter - ein Hauch von Rauch - kühl - erdig

Im Moment sogar eine 4,2. Jedoch wirkt er optische und geschmacklich deutlich älter - 2012?! Aktuell super als leichter Rotwein zu Speisen begleitend geeignet.

Lighter and and with more acidity than the Kühling-Gillot. Missing also a bit of structure.

Veldig annerledes spätburgunder. Veldig gøy. God og velbalansert.

2015 in 2025 getrunken. Milder roter ohne tannin. Für eine Weißwein Trinker lecker

Excellent GG PN from Rheinhessen. Very old world in style as one would expect. Cherry, cranberry, white pepper, minerals. Very good indeed.

2018/07/27 ドイツ出張で買って来た Große Gewächs ワイン。開栓とともに漂う Riesling の香り。薄黄緑だが粘度が高く見える。口に含むと感じる微発泡。キレの良い酸味。夏は Riesling Trocken だわ 残ったもの二日目。上品でバランスの良い酸味。その感覚に評価あげる。

Pale ruby colour. Medium (+) and developing nose with red currant, cranberry, charred wood, smoke, forest floor and wet leaves. Medium taste of red currant, cranberry, raspberry, charred wood, cocoa, wet leaves and forest floor. Long and dry finish. High acidity. Light tannins. Medium body. A very good Spätburgunder. Drink now or over the next couple of years. Goes well with mushrooms or pork.

Pale garnet. Med+ intensity with red cherry, cranberry, earthy, strawberry, smoke. Youthful with primary and secondary aromas. Dry, med acidity, med tannins, med alcohol, med body, med+ flavour intensity, long finish with taste following the nose. Very good, ok to drink now. Can age a few years (until 2025 or so).

This is nice! But maybe not as concentrated as I would’ve expected. Very elegant though, fruitful, quite complex, good length. Medium intense aromas of raspberry, red cherry, redcurrant, rose hip, rose petal, dried strawberry, wet leaves, eucalyptus, white pepper, iron. Dry wine, medium+ acidity, low tannins, light body, medium+ intense flavours, long finish. 13% - €45 @ weingut

And the last one of the tasting.. pure beauty! Ruby red, not very shinny On the nose blackcurrant, blackberry, very fresh, m intensity, a bit pepery On the palatz you feel the oak at the end. It is quite powerful! More about black fruits, tannins are thin but acidity is a bit too sour, profond wine. Really a nice suprise, not so much complex but really well crafted. To buy a bottle: yes

A clear ruby red colour and a nose consisting of dark berries and cassis. The fruity notes are companied by typical spices and earthy notes of forrest ground and smoke. What follows is a pallet that is still fairly young, with well integrated fruit and spices, supported by the oak that strengthens the backbone together with the savoury tannins. Dark cherry, Charcoal, caramel, chalk. Tense firm acids but, unfortunately, slightly short. With gnocchi and similar.

Sulfur in the nose. Sulfur/gunpowder and juicy red fruits on the palate.

Kühling Gillot / Battenfeld Spanier tasting door Batard/Scheepskameel. Bij de lunch werd deze naast de KG Kreuz GG geserveerd. Gemaakt door dezelfde wijnmaker (van BS). Dit heeft meer de klassieke Spätburgunder expressie. Kruidiger, aardser. Ook iets gerijpter (gedroogd fruit). Mooie mineraliteit. Ook mooi, maar voor mij wint de Kreuz echt met kop en schouders.

Mittleres Rubinrot, helles Karamell, saftige Sauerkirsche, etwas Vanille, rote Johannisbeeren, schöne Säure, trinkanimierend, erfrischend, schlank, sehr lang 3.9+

4.2. Smooth, complex spatburgunder. Blueberry, steel, herbal hints, soft tannins. Not like a burgundy, but very good. VERDICT- recommended

Spicy, fruity and multilayered. Really interesting, different and reminds me of barefoot waterskiing drunk.

[Eng->] Все-таки для себя решил, что, если Шпет неплохой (а этот - неплохой), то нужно брать год 2010 и ниже. 2013 год - укропные нотки, вишня, смородина, но кислотность вот на грани, реально вино стало питким через полтора дня в бутылке. Грибочки и листва только-только появились, спокойно можно забыть еще на несколько лет. —3.9 I decided for myself that if a Spät is good (and this one is good), I wouldn’t buy it younger than 2010.

Blind tasting at vertikal wine bar part 1... Light red in the glass. Red fruit, forrest floor, thicket, rose, resin, mushrooms and flowers. Med finish and fresh acidity. Complex and multi-layered. Burgundian in style. Good qpr. Like to explore this more. 18,5/20.

Short review as I did not have time to describe the wine at the time of tasting. Nice wine that is well balanced. Always nice to try new wines!

Bland tasting C: Always great winery, but Pinot felt a little bitter, with tannin and acid balance a little off… still good tho but the other two were just better — cellar door

Super Light refreshing expressing of a young tasting Pinot Noir. Sour red fruit forward, light in flavor with some nice complexity. Sour Red cherry, raspberry, strawberry, earth, mushroom, forest floor, licorice, white pepper, black berry, oak.

German Spätburgunder/Pinot Noir AuZone V/VIII Another brick coloured Spätburgunder with a boquet of sweet cherries, spice, raspberries and vanilla with also was reflected on the palate. Together with wine #2 runner up with votes 2-0 out of 13. Drink 2022-2029

Dezent, elegant, braucht sehr viel Luft zum Atmen. Kräftig in m Mund, aber etwas wenig im Abgang. Schöner Essensbegleiter

Цвет вишневый  с оранжевым, редкие тонкие ноги, в запахе пряная слива, среднее- тело, сладит, во вкусе легкая карамелизация, мягкое вязкое послевкусие. Алк.13%, похоже, уже готово к пенсии.

3.7! Not particularly surprised by this pinot noir. The color is really weak. The nose shows some blackfruits and licorice, followed by earthy/mushroomy hints . Body is medium and acidity is med +.

Limestone with loess, sandy loam. Superb nose, with a fragrant herbal note overlaying pure red cherry fruit. A woodsy, cedary note, perhaps from new wood, but the oak integration in near perfect. Voluptuous red fruit with silky tannins. Very polished. Very good. ***++

Not typically my favourite Spätburgunder region, but this wine convinces with its easy approach and at 5 years of age, it shows still a good amount of silky ripe tannins and acidity left. Not overly complex but good length and intensity.

A simple not too complex wine. Floral and light in the nose (typical for mid to north German spatburgunders). Well made, but I do prefer the more earthy tones and elegance that we can get from the more southern spatburgunders or Burgundy. 13 out of 20 points.
