Very powerful wine nice

minerals smoke red currant wild strawberry earthy vanilla - it doesn’t get much better than this. Had it a couple of Christmas Days ago, and forgot to rate it. Still remember everything about the tasting and the experience. Probably my favourite Etna, and undoubtedly one of my favourite wines - period!

Ciliegia, erbaceo, balsamico, speziato, chiodi di garofano. Potente e tannico. Il nostro preferito come vino contrada di Franchetti. Da bere con 5/8 anni sulle spalle.

Contrada Guardiola, lying at 800 meters asl, is where the Passopisciaro estate is located. The vines are 140 years old and are grown on terraced vineyard made of pyroclastic origin soil with an alternation of lava rocks and pure volcanic dust. Aged 18 months in large Slavonian oak barrels, it delivers crunchy red fruit, floral nuances, pencil shavings, umami, balsamic and ashy hints. Nerello Notorious. One of the finest so far for me from Mount Etna 🌋 . Here Contrada (cru) Guardiola. Sicilia ; amore mio 😍 Old vines , 700 m, volcano 🌋 soils. Age 9 ( gave this a 4 year cellar 💕). So Savoury; tomato leaf, mushrooms with that expressive mineral charm. Some Smokey accents. Fruit is in the wild strawberry , raspberry ways. Umami at its best. Dusty acidity glides the way home. I can’t get enough Nerello 🍇. Shared with great friends.

Cassis perfumed, opulent & velvety Nerello from contrada Guardiola, the last of the five "cru" wines to be added to Andrea Franchetti's impressive roster. Ageing beautifully, very well balanced with grippy but fine tannins.

The smoothness of the tannins express the freshness of this beautiful wine, red cherry and some what spicy balsamic with a long finish. Might be my favourite contrada

Tranbärsjuice för syrajunkies! Även om rosorna har bytts ut mot lavarök och uttrycket som helhet har en något mindre expressiv utgångspunkt är det här så nära nebbiolo du kommer i Sicilien. Enormt balanserat trots en skyhög syra och med en vacker tunnhet i den röbäriga frukten. Här finns inga stora åthävor och faten ger också bara en lätt, nästan omärkbar sötskjuts åt slutet. Galet gott nu och i många år framåt. Högst personligt och vibrerande utan att göra avkall på några delar av kvalitén. Gry

Passopisciaro make a rosso blend from various sites & a series of contrada (vineyards defined by a letter eg “G” & that correlate to singular lava flows over centuries. Each v/yard expresses a different character of Nerello Mascalese being the singular grape variety. Blood orange, pomegranate, red cherry, cola, anise, dried autumnal leaves, dusty ferrous earth, soaring mentholated perfume. Elegant medium bodied - the Burgundian silken texture ever present. Seamless. Cork 15.5%.

Intense bouquet of sour cherries and raisins. On the tongue aromas of elderberries, plums, tobacco, leather, dark chocolate. Mild acidity, light well balanced tannins and a nice finish. Light, spicy and full-bodied wine from Sicily.

Serious Etna Rosso! Wild strawberry, red cherry, sweet spice, high firm tannins, high acidity, bit of leather and earth, little bit funky from the volcanic soil, needs some more time but really enjoying this style.

Sexy Nerello Mascalese (100%). Love it more than passorosso 2012. Medium garnet, medium+ bodied. After 30 min aeration, it unfurls with beautiful earthy profile. Lots of minerals from vulcanic etna soils. Red cherry, rasberry, strawberry, leather, cured meat and white pepper. Alcohol and acidity levels are still dominant. Grippy tannins. Lay it down a few more years in the cellar. Crisp medium finish. 4.3/5.

This is stellar Nerello Mascalese. This winery keeps getting better every year with more complexity and elegance with its Etna based single crus. The 2016 showcases a knockout nose of red berries, vulcanic hints, light spices and petals. The palate is laser precise and round in a light to mid weight context. This finale is mid length. Wonderful. +8.5/10

Nella 2016 l’equilibrio è massimo. La bocca fresca e consistente schiaffeggia il palato. Il naso scuro cupo quasi fumoso e un retrobocca di arancia accompagna un tannino perfetto. Colore fantastico

A sterling Nerello Mascalese! M+ cherry, raspberry, red currant, blood orange, white pepper, smoke and tobacco. Lovely red fruit and minerals. M+ acidity, M+ tannins (drying), H alcohol (a clear menthol note), M body and long finish (with red fruit, blood orange zest and a nice salinity). Excellent!

Nose: for Etna quite open, clean, floral, fruity, no stable notes. Mouth: soft, airy, the tannins are clear, gripy but not bitter. Finish rather long, slightly fruity

One of my favorite grape varietes! Thin body but strong structure and medium plus complexity! Very fresh and fruity with predominant voolcanic minerals on the nose!

Surprisingly fuller bodied yet elegant Nerello Mascalese with clear minerality, fresh, red fruit, ginger, spice notes with good acidity and structure.

This evolved from a simple red fruit based wine to a lovely, high-end, Burgundian style of wine, to a more restrained and simple wine over the course of three or four hours.

I’ve had several wines from Passopisciaro and this bottle has the most finesse and elegance I have tasted. Lean and suave ripe cherry, smoky raspberry, orange peel, young leather, rose petal, field herbs, violet, lavender, volcanic minerals, with even a slight chocolate on the tail end. Acid is supple and smooth, and gives such a great balance to the fruit. Tannic structure too is excellently integrated and only adds to this mixture of balance. Love every scent and sip!

Contrada Guardiola. Red currant, sour cherries, red tea leaves, clove, a hint of vanilla. Very silky, elegant tannins. Med well integrated acidity. Powerful yet elegant in body - 14.5%Vol abv are perfectly integrated. Well structured. Long and elegant finish.

Surprisingly accessible. Delicious and food friendly. Sour cherry, raspberry, licorice, menthol, and rose petal on the nose. Maybe a touch of balsamic? Medium bodied with slightly pronounced (but pleasant) acidity. Tannins yet to fully integrate. Good intensity and length overall.

Sicily: for the price one might have expected a bit more from this Etna pioneer winery; the first nose is beautiful and continuous for some time to be ( wet stone, wet earth, some red (cherry, raspberry) fruit, gentle spices); pleasant mouthfeel with light tannins and minerals, fruits; however it seems to lose its charm over time and the last glass is less interesting than the first. Might be a question of « too young, check again 5 years from now ».

16082024 - celebrating my lovely wife’s birthday 🎂 at La casa Nostra Bangkok 🇹🇭: Purposely chose this middle slope from Mount Etna ⛰️ for the initial G for tonight. Decided to decant half of the bottle as per sommelier’s recommendation & it opened up with beautiful deep ruby red colour in our Zalto’s glass. Red cherry with new leather on the nose with ash & smoke as it being aerated. Orange peel with licorice & plenty of morello cherry 🍒 that I love the minerality tension that paired perfect

Light ruby red in color. Beautiful nose of floral, red fruits, French oak, cream appealing right straight. Palate wise, very nice sour fruits, a hint of greenness, delicious long finish. I really like this profile, good intensity and perfect amount of fruits flavor, coupled with gentle and silky approach 🥰🥰😊

Last bottle of our Sicily trip, before we said goodbye! Orange peel, powdered dark chocolate, cherry, mineral. Light, lovely. Opted to try this over getting a bottle of Donnafugata's Milli Notte (as had only had a glass of MN earlier). Wasn't disappointed by the decision!

Serieuze wijn! 100% nerello mascalese, complex, kruidig, elegant als een mooie Nebbiolo, stevige tannines en goede zuren. Veel te jong nog, maar toont veel potentie.

Aldilà di Franchetti che è un unicuum della produzione etnea in cui va oltre il territorio. Amo Passopisciaro per le sue contrade e l’esaltazione di come ogni “Sciara”, ogni microarea tradmette sensazioni gustative e olfattive diverse. Le contrade sono queste, stuzzicano curiosità e ampiano gli orizzonti di un “semplice Etna”. Guardiola è ipersfruttata ma non delude mai. Rimane bilanciato e mai estremizzato. Top.

A superlative Etna Rosso. The volcanic ash tones are so evident with a underlying thread of smoke. Overlaid with flavours of leather.

Etna tasting event, limited notes. My pick of the contradas. Red fruit, ash, nebbiolo-like stony tannin with a long finish. Lovely.

Excellent, complex, elegant dry red with wild strawberry, blackberry, wood and leather notes in the nose and mouth. Long, zingy raspberry finish.

100% nerello mascalese from mount Etna, 100 y old vines. Dark fruit, sweet spices, smoke and clove, hints of chocolate. Solid structured wine with a long finish and firm tannins.

Deep garnet. Raspberry and wild herbs on the nose. Med acidity, body and tannins. Raspberry, cherry and red fruits with a smokey minerality and spice on the finish. Great depth of flavour.

Very interesting blend from Sicily. The producer is well known and capable to express the grapes into fine wines. Fresh and flavorful wine: blackberry, caramel and tobacco with fine tannins and a velvety texture. Enjoy it

Bios on the winery but still i love etna contradas ,here we have like about 500 m high vineyards , Deep and layered, showing darker fruit, spice, and a smoky volcanic edge. More structure and tension, with a long mineral finish — a contrada with real depth.

Comparing to Graci this one has slightly more oak. Beautiful vanilla. Medium ruby color. Medium+ aroma of candy cherry, raspberry, tomato leaves, vanilla, cedar, orange blossom. Youthful. Dry, medium+ acidity, medium tannin, medium+ body, medium+ finish. Very good wine. Can age.

Franchetti é stato il precursore della classificazione in contrade. Contrada Chiappemacine produce un Nerello Mascalese davvero interessante. Annata 2021, vino molto giovane ma dal grande potenziale. Viene già fuori una eleganza importante, nonostante un tannino presente nel finale che ti avvolge il palato ed é a tratti ancora scorbutico. Consiglio di aprire questi vini al momento giusto. Voto 91/100 che tra qualche anno sarà superiore.

Smokier, meatier, more body than their entry level wine. This is a delicious wine. I am just not sure it offers double the taste explosion than the entry level bottle. Because it is double the price. But make no mistake this is good. Real good.

Bottiglia davvero esemplare che dalle pendici dell 'Etna🌋( il cui terroir mette in risalto le caratteristiche del Nerello Mascalese), è arrivata alla conquista della critica internazionale. Alla vista è rosso rubino con decise sfumature granata, al naso i sentori ricordano i frutti di bosco in perfetta armonia con le note di anice e sandalo. In bocca è intenso, dotato di una concentrazione di tannini ben definiti che portano ad un sorso appagante.🍷😊

Contrada più rinomata fra quelle di passopisciaro.A mio parere non superiore ad altre. Ottimo comunque.forse un po' troppa freschezza. lampone fragola fragola di bosco melagrana balsamico cenere sandalo cannella

Comprendere e -soprattutto- apprezzare a fondo i vini di Franchetti è una impresa bella tosta, per nulla facile. Contrada Guardiola è il cru in cui il nerello mascalese raggiunge la sua massima espressione. Eleganza, profondità sia all’olfatto che al gusto. Il potenziale di invecchiamento è degno di un nebbiolo piemontese. Davvero ottimo.

Schöner langer Abgang. Leichte Tannine. Kirschen und rote Beeren. Etwas mineralisch. Feiner Wein

Apesar de su grado alcoholico, fresco, afrutado i un final secante. Un poco de acidez volatil.

Al naso delicate note fruttate e minerali di grafite. Palato caldo, Tannico, fresco con note fruttate e minerali in continuità con l'olfatto.

From the Guardiola contrada around the winery. Way more giving than the passorosso. More red fruits and body than the passorosso. All in all much more finesse and elegance. Should definitely gain from 5-10 years in bottle. Delicious stuff!

Generous and rich taste fascinates notes of ripe red berries, flowers and anise. Intense minerality and silky tannins give the wine a special charm and subtle nuances of cedar, dried herbs and tobacco give complexity and elegance. The finish is long. Enjoyed it!

Dry, burnt earth, mineral, layered. Light vegetal & mineral nose, with a sprinkle of flowers. Apparent volcanic minerals. Soft & calm palate. Light to medium bodied wine. The long cleansing dry finish is such a good finish :)

2013. Tannic, medium+ bodied, bold, lively acidity

縁が明るいルビーレッド。 香りは強くラズベリー、ブルーベリーの赤系果実香と花はスミレでピノノワール的。一方ムッとする動物的な香りもあり。 アタックはやや強めで、酸味はやや強く苦みは滑らかであまり強くないエレガントな味わい。

シチリア、ネレッロマスカレーゼ 酸が元気でクランベリーのピチピチとした果実味のある赤。 とてもエレガント。 な反面、ピノノワールに比べると少し野生的だがネッビオーロほどではない、２つの中間的な感じ。 美味しいが、少しお高い。

Cassis, lingonberry, violet and Stone. High acidity and some tannins. Good now but will be great after 3-5 years in the cellar Workes well with food, especially creamy and buttery pasta
