Martin Waßmer Castellberg Pinot Noir

Martin Wassmer opened a bottle of the 2019, not yet labelled. Light as a feather, no heaviness or excess baggage on this wine at all. Pure elegance, the tannins give some outer grip and the raspberry and cherry fruit sit along the entre line of the tongue sweet and cool. Utterly delicious experience. A beautiful Pinot Noir wine. Probably the best german red wine i‘ve ever had. Pronounced oak, but clear terroir. Absolutely beautiful.

This is a dry red wine made from the Pinot Noir grape, grown in Baden, Germany. Aromas of wild berries, oak, cherry and cedar. Notes of cherry, herbs, smoke, oak and cedar on the palate. Nice finish with firm tannins and crisp acidity.

Entwickelt sich über die Jahre wunderbar. Zur Fruchtfülle gesellen sich mit zunehmender Belüftung auch intreressante würzige Sekundäraromen hinzu.

De Dottinger Castelberg is een mastodont; groots, meeslepend en gelukkig nog niet uitgestorven. Zure kersen, aardbeien, boslucht, mooi zoet/zuur en lange afdronk.

Crazy elegance and huge acidity. This is definitely worth of the finest pinot noirs from limestone. Delicious now and for the next ten years.

Klares rubinrot mit leicht wässrigem Rand. Was da in der Nase kommt ist echt gewaltig: schwarzer Pfeffer, reife Erdbeeren, Kirschen, etwas Lakritze und jede Menge intensive Kräuter wie z.B. Minze und Thymian. Geschmacklich dominiert hier noch ganz klar die Säure, der braucht noch sicher 5 Jahre im Keller. Man kann aber erahnen, hier steckt ganz viel 1er Grand Cru Burgund im Glas.

Verschlossen im Duft, dezente rote Frucht, Hibiskus, Kräuter, dunkle Schokolade, am Gaumen dicht, stoffig, fest, feines Tannin, feingliedriger Säurenerv, gute mineralische Würze, fruchtig, sehr elegant

Had never heard about this German winemaker. Had the chance to talk to him at the event. ☺️ Single vineyard in Baden; volcanic soils; low yields; aged in oak (only modest portion new). Intense nose of strawberry, raspberry, cranberry, rose petals, white pepper, sandalwood, and subtle volcanic smoke. Was für ein eleganter Pinot aus Baden. Tiefes Purpurrot, in der Nase bereits dunkle Kirschen die im Gaumen mit weiteren dunklen Früchten sehr elegant ergänzt werden. Traumhafter Abgang.

The reason they call this “Pinot Noir” rather than Spätburgunder is because they use Burgundy clones (rather than German clones for the “Spätb.”) 18 months in new & 2nd use oak. Black fruit / blackcurrant and light toast aromas. Young, juicy and a bit sherbety. Fresh acidity. Will be great with another few years bottle ageing.

Klapper van een GG. Stallig boers, mooie zuren, rode besjes. Dag 3 open. Opnieuw TN. Waar 2016 natuurlijk mega jong is voor een GG. Duidelijk wat meer open. Dit is wel een niveautje. Wat aardbeitjes, rode bessen, kersen, fruit wat meer geintergreerd. Medium tannines. Klein pepertje in de afdronk. Weinig gelaagdheid en structuur. Krachtig zuurtje.

Ein Wein zum Träumen. Harmonisch und und unwahrscheinlich lang im Abgang ist dieser Pinot Noir ein kleines Kunstwerk, das Gottseidank nicht nur betrachtet, sondern auch interaktiv genossen werden kann. Warme Aromen betören die Nase, vollmundig und doch filigran, rund am Gaumen und kaum enden wollend im Abgang. Ein Meditationswein, der verführerischen Art.

Kirsebær, solbær, vanilje og lidt læder i duften. Sødlig smag med meget frugt. Elegant men samtidig med god power.

3.25 Le fond est joli mais un vin un peu trop immédiat, riche, avec un petit côté too much à mon goût et un retour d'alcool en fin de bouche. Et pas donné

Sour cherries on the palate - acidic but some fullness - pleasant

This wine was aged 20 months in mostly second use oak barrels, 13.5% alc. Pale ruby in the glass, sour cherry, minerals, spice, roasted coffee notes. High tannins, high acidity, low fruit profile. At this price point lacks complexity and doesn't bring any joy in drinking it. Seriously overrated and overpriced! Decant 1 hour. [Side note: this is the first out of the four wines that I am going to review from this producer. I really, really hope that those wines are different from this one.]
