Tasting at Abreu with Château Pierce group Napa December 10 2022. Deep purple garnet hues. Nose ripe blackberry, black currant and blueberry, touch vanilla and cream. Palate black fruit especially cassis, blackberry, cream, smoke, ripe green bell pepper. Acid M+, alcohol M, tannin young but ripe M+, finish L, body Full. Quality Outstanding even at this early stage.

And another big Wow! Very beautiful aromatics of sweet black cherries, mulberries, elderflower, mint, some licorice, sexy oak, smoke and some dark tobacco. It's again full-bodied, dense but without any heaviness, has pretty high tannin and acidtity adding structure. Despite its size it's surprisingly silky and elegant. Very long and complex finish. All Abreu wines were a super impressive experience!

The showstopper of the night. A stunning Napa cab with everyone guessed it was an old world from blind. Deep, complex, perfectly aged and ultra long finish. I want more...

Cassis on the nose. Could pass for french. On the palate gobs of sweet fruit that just keeps on coming. Finish is amazing and so long. Balance. Fantastic. One if the best I've had in a long time

Dark color. Nose of sweet black currant, dark berries. Very powerful, complex, long and multilayered. I guessed the wine to be much younger, still tannic and backward. A Blockbuster...drink whenever you can.

Hmmm. Dense dark ruby color. High sugar, long legs. Nose opening up every minute. Notes of berries and chocolate, scent of vainilla. Very impressive hidden complexity that shows up with air time. Tastes of leather and earthy products, mushrooms and soil, extreme subtlety for a Cabernet Sauvignon. Incredible effort, you can enjoy this beauty for another 30 years.

Such a unique cab with fantastic mouthfeel and long finish. It’s a fruit bomb. Tasted with a friend who generally avoids cabs but his exact words were ‘I’d drink cabs if they were like this’ . Just a beautiful wine. Very much fresh for '07. Lots of plum and spice and maybe a bit of licorice.

Birthday wine blind no 9/11. Everybody guessed it's Bordeaux. So wrong. This Abreu Madronna Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon...a bit green, earthy, lots of legs, and it has a long finish to the count of 20 seconds…ABV 13.4%. Crazily impressive. Wow...Thanks JY

Nonsense level of good. The 08 vintage has matured so well. Not much to say here. It’s got an earthy leather cedar forest floor sort of vibe that you’d expect from a first growth Bordeaux, but with that Napa panache that’s hard to imitate. Beautiful wine, one of my favorites. 08 really was a great vintage.

Extraordinary!!! This is bar none one of the best Napa Valley Cabernets I have tasted to date. Gorgeous dark color. Could have mistaken the nose for Bordeaux, beautiful dark raspberry, licorice and cassis. The palate is elegant, layered and integrates the tannin to perfection. Kudos to Brad Grimes and David Abreu for making such transcendental wines!!! A perfect combination of Old World and New.

Birthday celebration ; easily one of my best wines this year. Flawless imo. So elegant with lots of finesse and nice smoothness prob due to high Cab Franc. Aromas and flavors leaped from the glass. Each sip better than the last as the wine opened to reveal ever increasing layers of fruit, slices and minerality. A true delight and privilege to enjoy this beauty.

Wine info: 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and one of the highest percentages of Cabernet Franc, ranging from 33% to 45%. Tiny quanti,ties of Petit Verdot and Merlot are also added, depending on how they fared in any given vintage. There is now a forest floor intensity to this full-bodied, opaque purple-colored 2011. After spending 26 months in 100% new oak, it exhibits great fruit, concentration and intensity. Just received my shipment from abreu vineyards. On Hold for a few more years...

It's a bomb! From the first sip it makes a strong statement. I am a perfect wine. Cabernet Sauvignon from California. I would give it another 5 years in the cellar. And then it is going to be majestic.

Utterly fantastic! Very powerful Napa cabernet nose, blackcurrant, pencil shavings and cassis, on a level that just signals greatness. This had me sniffing on and on. On the palate - full bodied powerhouse, with chewy tannins that leave you wanting more - it is fireworks in your mouth. But still so velvety and soft before the tannins kick in, rich, intense, complex. The pleasure of this wine almost made time stand still. What a fantastic experience (thanks HP) Only 500 cases made! I haven’t wrote a review in awhile. We haven’t been out in a long time to enjoy a nice dinner. We needed a nice wine. I just bought the 16 Madrona and I hope it was worth the $$. Oh boy, this was awesome. Big napa cab, but oh so balanced. One hour decant. Near perfection. Blackberry, cassis, oak, silky texture and a joy just to smell.

Huge calcab tasting. Retasting this top Napa walley red from august. Exactly same notes today. Blackberries, plums, tobacco, caralimedized elements and vanilla oak on nose. Racy acidity and ripe tannins on palate. Fullbodied and complex fruity finish. Exceptional powerfull texture.

Special stuff. Right up there with MacDonald as far as power & elegance. Lots of jammy berries and fruity sweetness, but still velvety feel & aged perfectly. Tannins are very subtle, this is ready! Really in prime spot right now and shows what a perfectly aged, perfectly crafted, Napa Cab aspires to be. Hard to find any flaws, so 5/5 it is! This one will be hard to beat.

Developing quickly with green underbrush and decaying petal highlights 👅firm almost spicy tannin with nice red fruit weight on the mid palate. A soft acidity give a sense of plushness 🤩beautifully crafted with structure, layers of complexity and a oak dominant style 96pts

Drank 2013 in January 2023. This bad boy was singing after a 2 plus hour decant. This one still needs major air to open up and seems to have decades of additional life. Now is a good time to open it though if you have it. Amazing balance and purity. Long finish.

Wow. Wine of the night. Rich deep currant dark berries. Long finish. Needs serious time. Could easily go for another 20 years

One hour double decant, followed by a two hour slow ox. Very deep dark ruby magenta color. Eucalyptus, iron, blackberry, anise, stewed strawberry, hickory-laced chocolate, dandelion, and subtle peony. Very smooth, dry, slightly dusty palate. Super fine, lasting, mouth filling acidity. Full, plush tannins on the long finish. Wine of the weekend. Perfectly integrated and very complex.

2009, classic Napa, gorgeous and seductive nose of dark liquor, blackberry, dark plum, toasty cedar, licorice, espresso, vanilla, so rich and powerful with dark berry core and chocolate, tobacco, smoke, great balance, density, and vibrant with sweet tannins and a super long finish. Absolutely gorgeous.

Brought this to dinner and decanted table side for about an hour and a half. Beautiful vibrant nose. First glass was very complex, rustic, dark fruits, graphite, oak. Second glass paired with bone-in New York steak, pure bliss. Long finish.

I called 🇺🇸 Napa, Cabernet, 1996, and Abreu 😂 it’s interesting how a year+ ago I found a 2008 Madrona Ranch from a private wine list and our dear friend @[1|51708746|Cheryl Lim] decided to buy it and bring it to dinner in HKG 🇭🇰 and all of us have been fans of Madrona Ranch ever since!

The precision and brightness is amazing with ultra-fine tannins that are so polished and so beautiful. Full to medium body and fabulous fruit. Wonderful length and beauty. The purity and balance is incredible. Dark berries, walnuts and dark chocolate.
