Stags' Leap Merlot

A very earthy merlot, great nose of boysenberry, sticks and vine. Deep, complex and intense nose, maybe more than any Merlot I've had. Great legs. Spicey and yet smooth, lingers with a hint of mustiness. This is dynamite! And fantastic QPR.

Well structured and balanced, translucent medium/full bodied, wonderful tasting experience. Notes of oak, cranberry, cherry, and allspice along with plum and blackberry flavors. Pairs well with chicken and other meat dishes

My first merlot! Great introduction! Smells very funky and plum -my. Lots of earthy notes, mushrooms, leather, a bit of spice, and then more deep plum. It’s incredibly smooth and warm. Need to have this again in the winter by a fireplace. Was originally going to give this 4.5, but I realized I can’t think of one flaw. So 5 it is.

It's lovely. Grapefruit, lemon peel, underripe strawberry, dusty, oaky, leather, chocolate milk and smoke or expresso. Definitely a dances between citrus, grassy earth and oak.

Similar to Markham rated before, medium minus acidity, low tannin, and deep purple in color. Same notes of blackberry, sugared plum, and blueberry. Earns am extra half star over the Markham due to the heavier intensity of the flavors. Absolutely delicious.

Love stags leap. Had with jess and Chris and was better than the limited edition wine for triple the price that we drank the same night.

Smells slightly oaky, soft, a little dry, but smooth. Hints of fruit and chocolate in the smell. Very good.

Much better experience with the 2022 vs other years we have tried. Full bodied and plenty of expression

4.3. Good value. Classic stags Leap, great fruit not too jammy.

Cherry on the nose. Not sweet alcohol forward but not too much.

Pepperoni, bell pepper first. Plum, Stem of rose, very soft tannin, and long finish. Diacetyl, yeast.

Mild oak, relatively thin mouthcoating. Notes of dark fruit stick to the back of the throat.

So love this merlot.. Midium body, smooth with nice acidic... I think this is best merlot I've ever had...

All the beautiful flavors of a merlot, blackberry , currant, plum, cinnamon, caramel, lavender, and chocolate. It has that subtle soft texture and tannins. If you’re trying to find something different to drink than your usual Cabernet You should definitely check this one out. Worth the price? I’d say so

香りいい!渋いけど飲みやすい

silky and smooth.. soft texture with low-mid tannin.. hints of berries.. very drinkable merlot + comparatively cheaper than the cab and petite syrah. really went well with some ny strip.

膨よかで芳醇な味わいでした。少しレーズンのような甘い香りがして、バランスの取れた美味しいワインでした。 10年前の頂き物で、自宅のワインセラーで保管していましたが、少し澱が出ており、デカンティングをしてから楽しみました。

Lush velvety texture with licorice, vanilla, plum and raisins on the palate. The nose is complex earthy and tart cherry notes. Impressive as I come to associate Stag’s Leap with Cabernet!

This Merlot has a little oaky bite that puts it over the top of most merlots. Really really liked it. Lots of oaky red fruit and a little hint of chocolate. Great!

Really solid merlot. Silky smooth tannins with oak and tobacco on the nose, opening up to leather. On the tongue, raspberry, strawberry and cherry finishing with subtle vanilla.

Awesome wine and so consistent. Blackberry nutmeg cocoa and violet on the nose with plum chocolate and cherry on the finish. Medium acidity medium plus body with lots of smooth rounded tannins. A pleasure to drink and not to harsh on the finish or the wallet!

I’m not a Merlot drinker but this is the best Merlot I’ve tried. Lots of Oak, vanilla, followed by a dry oaky aftertaste. Beautiful change up from my typical Amarone and Cabs

Black raspberry and the black cherry and strawberry after it opened. Faintest hint of floral notes in the beginning. Eventually got some mint notes . Well made needs to open up for a bit. Medium plus body. Smooth but slight gripping at the end to say it will age. High quality but not ethereal. Medium acid

Smooth, easy to drink Merlot. Dark fruit, Vanilla…matched well with both meat and seafood. With Susan and Jim at Peerce’s.

Stags’ Leap 2010 Merlot 有名ではないが、ナパバレーの老舗。日本国内ではあまり出回っていないと思うが、クオリティは確かである。 アルコール14.1%と高め。 オレンジの帯びる赤で香りも甘く、円やかな味わいなのかなと思いきや、カベルネソーヴィニヨンにも劣らない力強さ。思わずエチケットを二度見してしまった位。 ディキャンタージュしても野性的なタンニンが残り、シルキーじゃない。でもだいぶ円やかになって、甘さも控えめである分、ブラック系果物からドライフルーツ、そしてチョコのようへと複雑に変化していく味わい。 真面目にしっかりに造られた男っぽいメルローって感じ。

Stags Leap produce good wines and although this Merlot is not up to the high standard of their Cab it is nonetheless extremely palatable

Delicious, much nicer than other merlots I’ve had. Oak, dark fruit, and leather dominate for me, with a bit of red fruit toward the end.

Nice medium bodied. Easy on the pallet with notes of black currant and black cherry. Good value. <$30 US in Feb 2020. 2016 vintage

Very rich, fruity wine. Taste has plenty of plum and blackberry on the first splash, and then recedes into some oak after flavors

Dark berries nice nose and a bit of oak. Very nice , smooth and easy to drink. Great value. Dry and with a bit more tannin than I imagined

Amazing on the Jose, not as good on the taste. Medium bodied, and not as dense as the nose suggests. Black cherry and prominent spice (allspice, ginger)

Third time with this luscious Merlot. This one had a high tannic profile with ripe red and black berries. Higher ABV at 14.5. Definitely a great price. Enjoy!!

cherry plum blackberry blueberry oak / Light, low tannins relatively dry, and fruit forward. Very approachable. Not my favorite style, but good.

Deep ruby. Typical Napa nose: generous blackcurrant, black cherry and vanilla. Palate is gentler than expected. Fresh fruit as opposed to jammy. Hints of clove and coffee. Acidity pops out. Nicely integrated tannins. Soft, gentle mouth feel. Lacks complexity and a bit expensive for what it is but overall, I thought it was a smooth, well-rounded wine with a classic flavour profile.

You have to keep swirling for aroma and flavor, but really good off dry Merlot, medium bodied, decent acidity and fine tannins. Dark ruby color, with pale bright ring. Generally subtle nose with primary, secondary and tertiary aromas of ripe black fruit, baking spices and vanilla melding together equally, if you swirl enough to get it. Ripe black plum and cherry flavor that fills the pallet. Short/medium finish with bright tart fruit and subtle tannin dryness.

凄い濃厚なメルロー。

20230503 1500NTDくらい。 ナパのメルロー、カモミと比較？ 渋み、フルーティ感ちょうどいい。 ちょうどよくて、特徴がすくない？

Tasty for lunch. A little lighter than I expected. Dark fruit and hint of chocolate. 14.4 ALC. and you can tell it. It’s getting better, decanting a must. Not much structure, but it’s only a 2022.

Bright ruby/purple. Dark fruit and floral notes on the nose. Very dry, concentrated fruit—blackberry, blue raspberry—but not at all jammy. Medium plus tannins—very fine and resolved. Vibrant acidity—very fresh, quite tart and slightly bitter. Full mouth feel. Medium plus finish. A touch hot and racy. Opens up to some cigar box and chocolate after a couple of hours. High quality complex Napa Merlot—but just not my style.

This producer’s wines are typically well-crafted, as is this merlot, but in our estimation they’re a bit crystalline, slightly stern. If that’s your style you’ll enjoy it, it’s a high quality wine, we simply appreciate a bit more lushness. Rating it a 3.9 as it is well-made, has good structure, will evolve over several years and should not lose points because it’s not precisely our style. Our enjoyment level was a 3.6 when you consider the cost versus other wines in that price range.

LA郊外Chatsworthのトレジョで31ドル。マイルドな樽香と甘さ控えめなメルロー香がナパの中でも安くはない証。しかし、リピートはない。

LAのメルロー、フランス産メルローと比べると渋味が弱く自分には幸い。甘くスムーズなトロ味の感じられる飲み口、肉料理やチーズとの相性は良いと思います。

Better than most Merlot. Needs a little aeration to open up and delivers pepper and banning spices. Nice full body, good fruit.

2013 Stags' Leap merlot 隣接するかの品評会で栄誉を勝ち取ったスタッグスリープワインセラーズではないので要注意。しかしながらナパ古参の生産者で,毎年安定&高品質なワインを生産している。 ビビッドな紫。プラム,ダークチェリー,ワイルドベリー,ザクロ,森の下草,燻製香,キャラメルなど。日本ではサッポロさんが扱ってるようです。メルローは果実味と香りのバランスが個性的なので,csやプティシラーと比べると好みがわかれるかも。
