Needs to breath 1st but an excellent wine

Vin acidulé, poivre blanc, note de framboise.

A dense, fruity, young red with notes of blackberry, plum and cherry. Strong spices and tannins. Perfect for a cold autumn / winter evening.

One of the highlights during my stay in Hungary

Nice ruby colour. Ripe red cherry, cocoa, notes of leather in nose. Cherry, plum, chocolate on palate. Dry and bold. Nice tannins and acids.

Dried fruits like raisin, plum and cherry, spices like pepper with a moderate oaky base. Medium-full bodied, tannins. Complex.

Leather and smoke in the smell with overriped cherry and animal scents. Red berries, oak, chocolate with acids and mineral hints. Long, smooth, complex finish.

Fabulous harmony of 8 type of red grapes. The palate is elegant with dark chocholate and plum and cherry. Lovely tannins. Very high rate of alcohol. Full bodied and pleasant to pair with red meat.

Middle body and acid, as the winemaker describes. An earthy, low acidity and medium tannins wine, witch goes well with fatty food. Nice red and dark fruit finish.

Authentic bull's blood from the Eger wine region. Hints of black fruits, oak, chocolate. Lots of tannins, but not so acidic. Soft, but it's alcohol % still makes it heavy. A great wine.

Beautiful blend from St. Andrea, mixing of Hungarian and international grapes. Rounded, soft tannins, harmonikus. Ripe cherry, blackcurrant, plum, pepper and vanilla. Strong character, but not too aggressive. Very nice.

Dark nose. Smokey dark fruit black currant. Deep body with a long lingering finish. Ash on the end but if it were decanted longer I'm sure it'll open up. Looks like I'll have to finish the bottle to find out. 🖤🖤🖤

This wine has a wonderful nose. Why? It hits me with some very earthy, gravely nose. The most clear association is SPEEDWAY game. Kid you not. It has hints of what's in the air after a great and exiting lap. It's a marvelous discovery. I wonder whether it happened to anyone else ;-) There is also some perfumed fruit and spice component. In the mouth is full and juicy with some sour cherry and dark chocolate finish. Great stuff. Would go well with some tasty cured ham !

Elegant wine, which I had not expected of this Hungarian 'bulls blood'. Blend of merlot, kekfranko, PN among others. Driven by blackberries, blackcurrant, beautiful earthy tones as pied de mouton, nutty, wet wood- all wrapped in soft tannins.

If you ever check the sheer number of different grapes that go into this wine, you might cringe. You. might think that they are just throwing shit together and are recipe wine makers. Well you are wrong. This is a fantastic wine and is my go to red. You can't beat the price and in my opinion Egri Bikaver is the best Bikaver

Zei iemand drop? Lekker neusje. Zwart fruit, bijna jammy, en minty. Vol mondgevoel, stevige tannines. Hoog in alcohol, daardoor iets scherp in de mond. Lekker bij eten.

Also enjoyed with dinner at Cafe Kor in Budapest. Pure red and black fruit and vibrant acidity.

Nice! Only but … disappears rather quickly.

Tried the 2016 this time, lovely but not as big and tasty, same characteristic otherwise, black fruits, a touch of spice, great egri bikaver from eger.

Firme no bouque floral com notas de especiarias. Frutado sem excesso, leve sem perder personalidade. Bom exemplar da Hungria.

Complex arroma's from red and black fruit, balanced accidity , nice tannins with lovely oaky tones. Warm feeling from alcohol (13,5% Vol. alc.). Long finish. Needs to be aired.

Silky and soft, elegant and well balanced. Far better than expected and definitely not a rustic Bikaver. Good winemaking skills very evident. Certainly the best Bulls Blood i've tasted

Very nice Egri Bikaver. Dark ruby color quite thick and bold but pleasant. Chocolate oak with cherry and dark fruit plum elements. This was a 2012 vintage which aged pretty nicely.

Ripe, rounded wine on its top, characterised by middle body and acids. Ripe red fruits on the nose complemented by spices also on the palate. Elegant and structured. Fine oaky notes in the finish.

Full bodied, ripe berries in the nose, hint of earth as well. Relatively dry even on the beginning. An onslaught of ripe tastes and drying tannins, needs good steak next to it. Still surprisingly pleasant and balanced wine.

Amazing blend of wines I never seen! Medium bodied, acidity and slightly dry red with black berries flavors.

Aroma: oak, plum. Taste: dry, tanic, red fruit. Nice.

Dry red wine, Egri bikaver. Medium acid, high tannin, medium-high alcohol content. Also tried St Andrea Merengo is this has more tannins and body, less sophisticated. Blackcurrant, plum, dark fruit.

A really nice Bull's blood-style Hungarian red, more refined and subtle than a rustic Bikaver but still very much intense. Well-balanced, soft flavors of chocolate, plum, oak, tobacco, eucalyptus and blackberries, with medium acidity and tannins and a very long and pleasant finish. Mooie wijn uit Eger, Hongarije. Donker fruit, maar niet te zwaar.

So before I begin, this is my first Eger from Hungary. Not sure of the blend but it's known as "bulls blood". Despite the name, I must say I'm pretty impressed. A nice dark red colour but still quite light on body, on the nose I get tabacco and a little plum. On the palate a dry wine with long mineral finish. A little pinot like as it lacks body but a fine wine to accompany duck, pork and lamb. I'm new to Hungarian wines but I'm bloody enjoying them.

A little rough, needs meat or cheese along to become the smooth silk it aspires to be

3.75 (2020) - Fruity, predominately blue and blackberries, medium tannins, smokey, oaky, earthy, light/medium-body. 3.25 (2019) - Medium fruitiness with plum and blackberry notes with a smokey and almost orange like backdrop. Slightly spicy and leathery. Light/medium-body. 4.0 (2018) - Full of fruits, blueberries and cherry, nice medium tannins, oaky, silky finish with a bit of vanilla undertones. Light in body, bit warm on the throat.

Akinek van erre ideje, iszogassa!

An ok-ish wine from Eger. Good acidity, nice nose. Lacks fruit and tannins are too harsh. One can find much better Bikaver at this price point.

Hongaarse wijn van St Andrea uit Eger. De rode blend (een rits aan Franse druiven) uit deze omgeving wordt Egri Bikaver (stierenbloed) genoemd. De wijn is wat donkerder van kleur en wat voller en kruidiger. De geur was een tikkeltje chemisch. Ik ben geen enorme fan. Lastage concertgebouw Amsterdam

Deep ruby colour with thick oily body. Aroma has cranberry and tobacco. Dry caracter with sourish/acidic tone with a soft smoke touch. Medium body with spicey finish.
